Sign Language

Sign LanguageThe tactile language of ASL is used to augment speech and provide a tangible hands-on choice for expression of feelings, thoughts, and ideas.

We start teaching sign language to the children at 6 months of age and follows through to the curriculum for preschool and school-age children.

Benefits of Sign Language:

  • Promotes pro-social behavior
  • Reduction of the “Terrible Two’s” episodes
  • Larger vocabulary
  • Higher I.Q. scores
  • Connection with children before they can speak words
  • Language stimulation
  • Greater interest in books
  • Creation of a communication rich environment
  • Increase foreign language skills of staff
Children of Tomorrow’s staff have taken many hours of training to provide a more diverse learning opportunity for children, and families while making it possible for the children in their care to express their needs, thoughts, and observations before they are able to fully articulate or speak clearly. Post-verbal children will also benefit in many ways, especially those who are developmentally delayed, at-risk, or who are living in multi-lingual environments.

There is generally a reduction in classroom noise and acting-out behaviors, such as biting and hitting, as a result of properly implementing a sign language program within the classroom environment.
