Aleta Mechtel, President
Aleta Mechtel, owner and president of Children of Tomorrow, has a life-long passion for education. Aleta knew she wanted to work with children from her first babysitting job.
Since Children of Tomorrow opened in Chanhassen in 2000, Aleta has guided parents in finding the right care for their children. Children of Tomorrow offers a wide range of programs for children that create a strong foundation, and a safe and educational experience before entering elementary school. Aleta believes in having a superior staff, focusing on exceptional academics, one-on-one interaction, and meeting each individual need of every child. Children of Tomorrow has been awarded “Best Childcare in Carver County, MN” multiple times.
Tracy Smith, Director of Operations
Tracy Smith has been the director at Children of Tomorrow since 2012. As director, she responsible for implementing and managing all aspects of the centers including partnering with parents and leading a great team of teachers who focus on ensuring high-quality programs designed to help children foster their physical, sensory, social, emotional, and intellectual development.
Tracy received her B.A. in Therapeutic Recreation from St. Cloud State. With over 15 years of experience, Tracy believes every child deserves a quality educational foundation. Education starts at home and strengthens at school through open communications and cooperation between family and school. Her goal in early childhood education is to lay a strong foundation for a lifetime of learning.
Tracy is a proud wife and mother. She enjoys spending her free time with her husband Dane, son Carter and 2 daughters Kylah and Clara.
Abby Lundborg, Regional Director
Abby Lundborg the regional director, who specializes in quality and development, curriculum training, teacher development and building relationships. She works with early childhood professionals through changes and everyday challenges. Abby is very passionate about working with families and young children. She brings her experience in quality care and education along with NAEYC best practices to do what is best for children.
Before becoming a part of the COT Team, Abby worked at another center where she was a center director and quality team lead for 16 different schools within that one chain.
She has a degree in human relations and early childhood education.
She believes that given the correct tools all people big and small can accomplish anything!
Abby lives right outside of Belle Plaine, where you will find her chasing her twins! She enjoys camping with her family, online shopping, and refurbishing old furniture.
Mara Habisch, Administrative Coordinator
Mara is the administrative coordinator and family advocate for both the Chanhassen and Waconia Children of Tomorrow locations.
Mara brings over 10 years of customer service experience as well as an AAS in Sales and Management, and a BS in Business Management. She is no stranger to the child care field, she has worked as an aide, assistant teacher and a lead teacher for all ages. She has also been an assistant director and brings her customer service background and many years with classroom management to Children of Tomorrow where she collaborates with the assistant directors and directors to create a unique customer service environment for all families.
Mara lives in Winsted, MN with her husband and two boys. She enjoys camping, ice fishing, running, and spending time with family and friends.
